Careem is building the Everything App for the greater Middle East — making it easy to move around, order food and groceries, manage payments, and more. Our purpose is simple: to simplify and improve people’s lives and build an awesome organisation that inspires. Since 2012, Careem has enabled earnings for over 2.5 million Captains, simplified the lives of more than 70 million customers, and built a platform where the region’s best talent and entrepreneurs thrive. We operate in 70+ cities across 10 countries, from Morocco to Pakistan. We’re now entering our next chapter — one powered by AI. We’re looking for AI talent: curious problem-solvers who know how to apply AI to build tools, automate workflows, and create real impact. Whether it’s streamlining operations, enhancing customer experience, or reimagining internal systems — we want people who can make Careem work smarter and move faster. This role sits at the intersection of Operations, Care, Product, and Finance — turning business priorities into structured programs, and using data and policy design to make customer experience consistent, efficient, and scalable across every market and business line we operate in. You'll act as an individual contributor with real strategic influence: owning recurring performance reviews with vertical and market leads, running the analysis that shapes product and commercial roadmaps, and leading the policy decisions that define how the business treats its customers when things go right — and when they don't. Key Responsibilities 1. Performance Governance & Business Reviews Own the cadence of recurring performance reviews across multiple business lines — monthly and weekly reviews, goal check-ins, and steering updates — ensuring decks are current, owners are clear, and action items get tracked to closure. Partner with vertical, commercial, and finance leads to keep review formats, targets, and metrics consistent as the business evolves. Build a single, credible view of operational and customer experience performance that leadership can act on. 2. End-2-End Customer Experience Governance including ownership of L0 metrics Aligns Product, Operations, Care around shared journey-level priorities and drive consistent policy and quality of service. Leads experience reviews, journey mapping workshops, and gap-closure plans. Ensures policy, process, product, and communication remain consistent even as platforms evolve. Creates a unified view of customer experience performance across teams. Own CSAT and Contact Rate Careem-level L0 metrics for Care. 3. Cohort-Led Customer Policy Design Lead the design and rollout of customer-facing policies — refunds, compensation, service-recovery thresholds — balancing customer experience against cost. Develop segment-led (cohort-based) policies that treat customers differently based on value and history, while keeping the system simple enough to operate at scale. Run the governance forums that keep policy application consistent across markets, and partner with legacy or market-specific teams to bring outlying markets onto a common framework over time. 4. Contact Rate & Product led Defect Reduction Own and publish a regular, company-wide contact rate report — tracking performance against target by business line, surfacing the top drivers of customer contact, and translating them into a clear set of ask’s for product and commercial teams. Maintain the dashboards and source data that back this reporting, and keep the distribution list and format current as stakeholders change. Work with data and analytics partners to keep root-cause analysis sharp enough to drive real roadmap decisions, not just track a number. 5. Cross-Functional Program Management Act as the connective tissue between Operations, Care, Product, Finance, and Data teams — translating strategy into structured, trackable programs with clear ownership. Represent Operations and Care in cross-functional forums and leadership reviews, and keep a live view of open decisions, dependencies, and risks across workstreams. Cross-Functional Interfaces & Forums Key Teams: Care Ops, Product & Engineering, Workforce Management, Vendor Ops, Policy, Data & Analytics, Operations Excellence, Finance Core Forums: Operational governance and Customer experience reviews Defect-reduction and Lumina forums Automation and AI roadmap reviews Program steering committees Quarterly and monthly business reviews What You'll Bring 5+ years of experience in operations strategy, program management, business operations, or a related analytical/cross-functional role. A track record of owning recurring reporting or business-review cadences with senior stakeholders, end to end. Strong analytical skills — comfortable working with dashboards and raw data to build a narrative, not just a chart. Experience designing or governing customer-facing policy, ideally in a marketplace, e-commerce, delivery, or platform business. Excellent stakeholder management — able to align Product, Finance, Commercial, and Operations partners who don't always start from the same page. Comfort with ambiguity: this role is as much about building the structure as running it. Familiarity with workforce management, vendor operations, or AI-enabled quality/automation tooling is a plus, though not required. What Success Looks Like A predictable, trusted cadence of performance reviews that leadership relies on. Customer policies that are consistent, cohort-aware, and easy to apply across markets. A measurable, sustained reduction in customer contact driven by root-cause fixes, not just workarounds. Stronger cross-functional execution — fewer dropped handoffs between Operations, Care, Product, and Finance. What we’ll provide you We offer colleagues the opportunity to drive impact in the region while they learn and grow. As a full time Careem colleague, you will be able to: Work and learn from great minds by joining a community of inspiring colleagues. Put your passion to work in a purposeful organisation dedicated to creating impact in a region with a lot of untapped potential. Explore new opportunities to learn and grow every day. About The Role: Careem’s design system underpins every product experience across the super app, including rides, food, groceries, payments and beyond. We’re looking for a Design System Lead to own its evolution through its next chapter: one where the system serves not only designers and engineers, but AI agents that consume, generate and assemble design. This is a hands-on senior IC role for someone who is both a rigorous systems designer and a capable AI tool-builder. You’ll govern the token architecture, component library and documentation that keep a multi-vertical platform coherent, and you’ll use AI to make the system faster to maintain, easier to adopt and smarter to build with. What You’ll Do Own the Design System Own the lifecycle of Design System’s tokens, components, and patterns: from inception through shipping, iteration, and deprecation. Define and enforce standards for color, type, spacing, and interaction across platforms (iOS, Android, web) and locales, including RTL/Arabic. Resolve ambiguity regarding organizational ownership and responsibilities by maintaining a clear, intentional token architecture. Establish and maintain comprehensive documentation, specifically addressing identified needs for detailing appropriate guidance to ensure cross-component consistency. Champion accessibility (WCAG) as a system-level guarantee and manage the backlog with product and engineering partners. Make the System AI-native Structure tokens and components so agentic design-to-code and prompt-to-design workflows produce on-system output. Build and maintain Code Connect mappings, MCP integrations, and structured component metadata. Implement AI-assisted audits and linting to catch off-system usage and token misuse before they ship. Use AI to keep documentation verified and versioned alongside the components it describes. Prototype Figma plugins and agent workflows to remove repetitive tasks for the wider design team. Drive Adoption and Enablement Articulate the system’s value in efficiency and quality to stakeholders ranging from ICs to executives. Facilitate design system guilds and critiques, and synthesize cross-vertical feedback into prioritized improvements. Raise the organization's AI proficiency through workshops and training material. Partner and Influence Work closely with engineering to translate design patterns into deployable components, ensuring technical feasibility. Apply judgment to manage component bloat; for example, maintaining separate architectures (like Quick cards) when merging variants creates excessive technical complexity. Collaborate with stakeholders to align on design system goals and product strategy. What You'll Need: 5+ years experience in product design, with at least 3 years dedicated to design systems at scale (ideally, multi-brand or super-app environments). Advanced knowledge of variables, token architecture, component APIs, library management, and branching. About The Role: Careem is the everything app for the greater Middle East - rides, food, groceries, payments and more, serving tens of millions of customers across the region. Design here means working at rare scale and complexity: one experience spanning many verticals, and customers whose day we can genuinely simplify. We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to own design for a major area of the super app experience - the level where you’re no longer just executing within a team, but shaping the strategy your team executes. You’ll work with design leadership to set the design vision for your area, drive multiple workstreams in parallel, and be a force multiplier whose influence is felt well beyond your own remit. You’ll work AI-natively: using modern tools to move from intent to high-fidelity, testable design faster, while applying the judgment that decides what’s actually good. What You’ll Do: Own the Problem, End to End Strategic Ownership: Own design for your feature area from concept to launch - defining, designing and iterating experiences that improve user outcomes and move commercial KPIs. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Drive your product team toward clarity on what you’re building, why, and for whom; operate as a strategic peer to product and engineering leads, proactively identifying and resolving dependencies. Craft at Senior Level Comprehensive Delivery: Ship work that is thorough and complete across all interaction details - states, edge cases, dark mode, localisation and RTL considered by default, not on request. Systemic Design: Design holistically within existing systems: work fluently with our design system, know when to use it, extend it, or make the case for an exception. Rapid Prototyping: Prototype fluently and quickly to get the right feedback at the right fidelity - including AI-assisted prototyping to compress the distance between idea and testable artefact. Decision Articulation: Form and articulate design tenets, and use them to make and defend decisions. Be Guided by Evidence User Validation: Conduct research to validate your own work; run user interviews for discovery and testing. Data-Driven Decisions: Use data to shape decisions - suggest how your work’s success should be measured, and learn from what ships. Market Awareness: Maintain comprehensive knowledge of industry patterns and emerging AI-product paradigms, and let it deeply inform your work. Communicate and Collaborate Stakeholder Management: Present with polish and confidence to any audience, including executives; represent the design organisation in cross-functional and external settings. Clear Documentation: Produce written communication that is compelling and clear - problem framings, decision docs, and crits. Autonomy: Manage stakeholders proficiently and work without close oversight; handle feedback thoroughly and gracefully, knowing when to change direction vs. stay the course. Operational Momentum: Work with appropriate urgency - keep momentum, push projects forward, and flag quality issues beyond your own team. What You'll Need: 5+ years of experience in designing and shipping impactful digital products at scale, including experience leading design for a significant product area in a high-growth, fast-iterating environment; comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change. End-to-end expertise in interaction design, visual design, prototyping and design thinking methods - with a proven record of turning complex business problems into a design vision that shipped and moved metrics. Fluency with design systems consuming, contributing to and stress-testing them. Working fluency with AI in your design process: you use AI tools daily for exploration, prototyping, content and research synthesis, and you can show where they made your work measurably better - and where you overruled them. Experience in distilling data and research into design decisions; hands-on with user interviews and evaluative testing. Experience in operating as a strategic partner in multi-disciplinary setups - influencing product, engineering and commercial counterparts at lead and director level. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills - you can articulate a problem and a solution to any audience. A strong portfolio of mobile-first work with case studies that deep-dive into process, strategic framing and measurable impact - not just polished outcomes. Bonus Points Experience designing for the Middle East market, Arabic/RTL products, or multi-vertical super apps. Experience designing AI-powered product experiences (assistants, personalization, generative features). What we’ll provide you We offer colleagues the opportunity to drive impact in the region while they learn and grow. About The Team: The Personalization team sits within Careem's Data Science organization and owns the AI systems that decide what every user sees, in what order, and why across Food, Quik, and Shops. Our mission is to build the hyper-personalization layer for the Careem app: real-time, cross-vertical recommendation and ranking systems that learn from a user's behavior in one vertical and apply that understanding everywhere else they engage with Careem. As one of the senior technical leads on this team, you'll help define how Careem thinks about personalization at a regional scale working alongside the region's top data science talent, and pushing the state of the art using graph-based retrieval, transformer architectures, and real-time learning. What You'll Do: Own hyper-personalization use cases across Food, Quik, and Shops designing systems that learn a user's intent and preferences in real time and transfer that signal across verticals, so a user's behavior on one product makes every other product smarter. Be a technical lead on Careem's exploration of graph-based retrieval methods for recommendations including evaluating and building knowledge graph pipelines that power candidate generation and ranking at scale. Design and evaluate transformer-based architectures (XFY) for sequential and contextual recommendation moving Careem's ranking and retrieval stack beyond classical ML toward deep, attention-based models. Push toward online/streaming learning systems that adapt to user behavior within a session, not just from batch-trained models refreshed on a daily cadence. Identify where personalization signals, models, or infrastructure can be shared across Food, Quik, and Shops rather than rebuilt per vertical reducing duplicate work and compounding the value of every experiment. Be part of a 0-to-1 AI transformation for the Careem app from a personalization standpoint shaping how generative AI and LLM-based systems augment retrieval and ranking. Build a long-term vision for how Careem rethinks customer acquisition and engagement strategies, grounded in data-driven decision-making. Drive exploratory analysis to understand user behavior across verticals, identifying new levers to move metrics and building behavioral models that inform product enhancements. Shape and influence the ML models and instrumentation that optimize the product experience, surfacing new areas of opportunity and new product directions. Provide product leadership through data-driven recommendations communicating the state of the business, root-causing metric movements, and using experimentation results to influence product and business decisions. Implement scalable machine learning algorithms that run in production on large-scale data. Run exploratory data analysis to better understand user and business phenomena, and to discover untapped areas of growth and optimization. Answer complex analytical questions from large datasets to help shape Careem's products and services. Define and track key metrics for specific personalization initiatives. Design and run randomized controlled experiments (A/B tests), analyze results, and communicate findings to cross-functional teams. Continually challenge the status quo investigating new data processing technologies, retrieval architectures, and learning paradigms, and ensuring the team operates at industry-leading standards. Build and deploy retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems and other applications of large language models within the personalization stack. What You'll Need: 7-10 years of experience in data mining, predictive modeling, time series analysis, machine learning, and Big Data methodologies, including transformation and cleaning of structured and unstructured data. Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science. Solid experience with deep learning techniques i ncluding attention mechanisms, retrieval models, and transformer-based architectures (XFY or similar) applied to ranking or recommendation problems. Working with or evaluating knowledge graphs, graph neural networks, or graph-based retrieval systems is a strong plus. Careem is actively building toward graph-based retrieval for recommendations. 2-4 years of industry experience in personalization, recommendation, or search is a MUST. Preferably gained in a product-driven company operating at scale. Strong problem-solving and coding skills. Solid knowledge of A/B testing methodology, classical ML, and deep learning. Solid understanding of recommendations, ranking, and retrieval systems end-to-end. Familiarity with or interest in online/streaming learning systems models that adapt within a session rather than relying solely on batch retraining, is a strong plus. Proficiency and demonstrated experience in Python, SQL, Spark, and Hive. Demonstrated experience with database technologies (e.g. Hadoop, BigQuery, Amazon EMR, Hive, Oracle, SAP, DB2, Teradata, MS SQL Server, MySQL). Demonstrated experience with business intelligence and visualization tools (Tableau, MicroStrategy, ChartIO, Qlik); geospatial data processing skills are a plus.
